Your safety
Your safety & care at our Margate clinic
Safety at SM Aesthetics Clinic starts before any treatment is booked. This page brings together how suitability is assessed, how prescription treatments are handled, how the clinic is kept hygienic and what support you have afterwards.
At a glance
- Every treatment starts with a consultation. A consultation does not commit you to treatment.
- Treatments that need a prescription only go ahead after a one-to-one assessment with a registered prescriber (our prescribing partner, Dorota Jaworska of DJ Clinic in Folkestone), and never on the same day as that first assessment.
- Semi-permanent makeup starts with a patch test at least 48 hours before treatment.
- Treatments are for clients aged 18 or over. Non-invasive facials are available from age 16.
- Single-use needles, sharps containers and clinical waste collected by a professional waste service.
- Medical professional liability and public liability insurance (£1,000,000 each) and registration with Thanet District Council.
Before treatment: assessment and consent
You are asked about your medical history, medication, allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding and any previous treatments, so your suitability can be assessed properly. Sian explains the benefits, risks, possible side effects and alternatives before you decide, and you are free to change your mind at any time. If a treatment is not right for you, you will be told honestly.
Please complete your consent form at least 24 hours before your appointment and bring a list of any medication and medical conditions. Read what to expect at your first visit.
Prescription treatments
Some treatments can only be provided after an assessment by a registered prescriber. The clinic’s prescribing partner is Dorota Jaworska of DJ Clinic in Folkestone, who reviews your medical history and decides whether a prescription treatment is suitable for you. Dorota is an NMC-registered adult nurse and midwife with a Nurse Independent / Supplementary Prescriber qualification; you can check her entry on the NMC register. A prescription is issued only if it is appropriate, and it has to be delivered to the clinic before your treatment can be booked. If you have not had a consultation with us in the last 6 months, you will need a new one first. See how consultations and prescriber assessments work.
Hygiene and the clinic
Treatments take place in dedicated commercial premises at The Hub, Westwood Business Park, Margate. Sian uses single-use needles and disposes of them in sharps containers, surfaces are cleaned between clients, disposable paper towelling is used on the treatment bed, and products that need refrigeration are kept in a dedicated clinic fridge. The business is registered with Thanet District Council and is subject to periodic council inspections.
Insurance and registration
Sian holds medical professional liability and public liability insurance, each with a limit of £1,000,000, arranged through Insync Insurance Solutions and underwritten at Lloyd’s. Council registration and CQC registration are different: the CQC does not regulate every cosmetic treatment. Read more about Sian’s training, registration and insurance.
The products we use
Dermal fillers, skin boosters and polynucleotides used at the clinic are CE or UKCA marked medical devices, and the product and batch number are recorded in your notes. See the full range on our clinical standards & products page.
After your treatment
You are given clear aftercare guidance, and a follow-up review is discussed with you where it is part of your plan. If you have a concern after treatment, contact the clinic as soon as possible on 07539 784088, by WhatsApp or at sian@smaestheticsclinic.co.uk, with the date of your appointment and a short description.
Questions worth asking any practitioner
Before any aesthetic treatment, it is reasonable to ask about the practitioner’s training for that exact treatment, their insurance, the product proposed, how complications are handled and who provides follow-up. Our practitioner page lists the questions in full, and our advice guides cover preparation and recovery for specific treatments.
