What you can discuss

Watch

Your consultation

We look at your skin, talk through your concerns and medical history, and agree whether and how often treatment is right for you.

Good to know

Who might consider microneedling?

Microneedling may be discussed for concerns about skin texture and appearance. It uses fine needles to create controlled punctures in the skin; the proposed depth and technique matter. An assessment is needed to decide whether your concern fits the treatment available at the clinic. It is not a substitute for diagnosis of acne, a rash or a changing skin lesion.

Tell Sian about active breakouts, cold sores, previous pigment changes, raised scars, slow healing and medicines that affect your skin or immune system. Some people will need to postpone treatment or seek advice from a medical professional. Your skin history matters as much as the result you hope to achieve.

What happens during the appointment?

First, discuss your skin concerns, routine and recent treatments. Ask about the device, the proposed treatment area and what is appropriate for your skin. Conventional microneedling and radiofrequency microneedling are different procedures; this page does not imply that radiofrequency treatment is offered. Confirm exactly which treatment you are booking.

The skin is prepared before the selected needling technique is used. Sensations and visible effects depend on the treatment, and small amounts of pinpoint bleeding may occur. Ask how discomfort is managed and how long to allow. Products applied during or after the procedure should be suitable for that use, rather than chosen simply because they are part of your usual routine.

Recovery: the early days

Skin can feel warm, tight or sensitive and may look red or darker than usual immediately afterwards. These effects can last several days; some reactions take up to a week to settle. Recovery varies with treatment intensity and your skin response. Ask what you should expect from your specific session, including when makeup can safely be used.

Plan around work, sun exposure and occasions where visible irritation would be inconvenient. Do not assume that a low advertised price means no downtime. Persistent or worsening redness, increasing pain, discharge or unexpected skin changes need assessment. Contact the clinic promptly with concerns rather than repeating treatment while the skin is still recovering.

When might results be visible?

Improvement is usually assessed gradually rather than from the appearance immediately after a session. Skin renewal takes time, and a proposed course should include realistic review points. You may notice changes over weeks, with some effects assessed over months. No fixed number of appointments guarantees a particular outcome.

Ask which concern is being addressed and how progress will be judged. Photographs taken with similar lighting and without filters can make comparisons more useful. Scar reduction or an improvement in texture does not mean that every mark will disappear. The depth and scope of the clinic’s treatment should match the outcome being discussed.

Aftercare and an informed decision

Follow the written plan for cleansing, moisturising and sun protection. Ask when to restart retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs and other active products; do not apply them immediately because they are normally tolerated. Avoid picking at the skin and follow advice on heat, exercise and makeup while it recovers. Never change prescribed skin treatment without advice from its prescriber.

Infection, scarring and lasting pigment changes are possible risks, especially when treatment or aftercare is inappropriate. Ask about training, the device, hygiene and the arrangements for follow-up. Before choosing a course, confirm the full cost and intervals between visits. A careful assessment may recommend a gentler option, medical advice or no cosmetic treatment at this stage.

Your questions

Treatment FAQs

How many sessions will I need?

The plan depends on your skin and goals. A course is sometimes discussed; ask about the proposed number of appointments and total cost. Results vary.

Can I have microneedling with sensitive skin?

Sensitivity, active skin problems, medications and recent treatments can affect suitability. Discuss these at your consultation rather than selecting treatment without an assessment.

What aftercare will I receive?

Sian provides treatment-specific guidance. Ask which products to avoid, how to care for your skin and when you can return to your routine. Contact the clinic if you have concerns.

How long can redness last after microneedling?

Redness or darker colouring and sensitivity may last several days, sometimes up to a week. Treatment intensity and skin response vary. Ask what is expected for your session and seek advice if symptoms worsen.

Is this radiofrequency microneedling?

Conventional microneedling and radiofrequency microneedling are different treatments. This page does not advertise radiofrequency treatment. Confirm the exact device and procedure with the clinic when booking.
