A conversation first.

More men now ask about aesthetic and skin treatments, often for a fresher, less tired look, a sharper jawline or better skin. At SM Aesthetics Clinic the aim is the same for everyone: a natural result that still looks like you. For men, that usually means keeping the face strong and angular rather than softening it.

Appointments take place at our ground-floor clinic at The Hub, Westwood, Margate, with free on-site parking, for clients from Broadstairs, Herne Bay and across Thanet. Plan your visit to the clinic.

Which treatments do men ask about?

These are the treatments men most often discuss with Sian. Prices are from the clinic’s current price list; your exact cost is confirmed at consultation.

  • Jawline, chin and cheek filler: definition and proportion along the jaw and chin, or support in the mid-face. £150 per area (up to 1.1ml); some cheek plans need an extra syringe at £100. Multi-area packages from £250.
  • Skin boosters and polynucleotides: for skin that looks dehydrated, dull or crepey, including under the eyes. From £110 per session; a course is usually discussed.
  • Microneedling: for skin texture and renewal on the face and neck, and a scalp or beard microneedling option at £90. Face from £50.
  • Facials and dermaplaning: a steam and extraction deep-cleanse facial for congested skin, from £40.
  • Fat dissolving under the chin: £120 per session, using a product that is not a licensed medicine in the UK. Read its regulatory status before you decide.

Not sure which applies to you? You do not need to know the treatment name. Book a consultation and describe what you would like to change; Sian will explain the options, including doing nothing.

How is treating a man’s face different?

Men’s faces tend to have a wider, squarer jaw, a stronger chin, a flatter mid-face and a heavier brow ridge. Skin is usually thicker and oilier, with a beard area that is shaved or trimmed often. A good plan respects those proportions. Filler placed in the same way as for many women can look out of place on a male face, so the assessment looks at your whole face, not one feature in isolation.

Expect a conversation about your goals, your medical history, any previous treatment and the result you have in mind. Bring photographs if they help explain what you want. If something is unlikely to look natural on you, Sian will say so.

Beard, scalp and shaving

Facial hair can make some areas harder to assess and treat, and the skin under a beard needs to be clean and free of irritation on the day. Ask Sian how to prepare the area before your appointment and when you can shave, trim or use a razor again afterwards; the answer depends on the treatment and how your skin responds.

Scalp microneedling is offered as a skin treatment for the scalp. Hair thinning and hair loss can have medical causes, so sudden, patchy or worsening hair loss should be checked by your GP or a dermatologist first. Ask at your consultation what scalp or beard microneedling can and cannot do for you.

Recovery, gym and work

Avoid shaving the treated area for 24 hours and strenuous exercise or the gym for 24–48 hours, or follow the personal advice given at your appointment.

Swelling, redness, tenderness or bruising are possible after injectable treatments and microneedling. Men often ask about returning to the gym, contact sports, saunas and work; the advice depends on the treatment, so ask Sian for your own aftercare instructions rather than relying on a general timeline. Plan a quieter few days if you have an event, a photograph or an important meeting coming up.

When to get urgent help after filler

Seek help straight away if you notice severe or worsening pain, skin that turns pale, white, blue or dusky, blistering, or any change in your vision after a filler treatment. Contact the clinic, and for vision changes, difficulty breathing or facial swelling that spreads quickly, call 999 or go to A&E. Read about your safety and care.

“As a bloke, I’ll admit I was initially unsure about stepping into this kind of treatment, but Sian made me feel completely comfortable and at ease throughout the entire process. … I’m genuinely pleased with the outcome and wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend Sian to others especially to any men who may be considering treatment but are on the fence.”

Your questions

Treatments for men: FAQs

Do you treat men at SM Aesthetics Clinic?

Yes. Men are welcome at the clinic, and the consultation, prices and aftercare standards are the same for everyone. Many men start with a consultation to talk through options before deciding anything.

What is the most popular treatment for men?

Men often ask about jawline and chin filler for definition, skin boosters or polynucleotides for tired-looking skin, and microneedling for texture. The right option depends on your face, your skin and your goals, which is why every plan starts with a consultation.

Will filler make my face look feminine or overdone?

It should not. Male proportions, such as a stronger jaw and chin and a flatter mid-face, are part of the assessment. Sian aims for a natural, balanced result and will tell you if a request is unlikely to suit you.

Can I keep my beard?

Usually, yes. Ask Sian how to prepare the beard area before your appointment and when you can shave or trim afterwards. For some treatments the area needs to be clean, uncovered and free of irritation on the day.

Is the consultation confidential?

Yes. Your consultation and treatment records are private, and you can ask any question in a one-to-one appointment with Sian. Read the privacy notice for how your information is handled.

Clear answers, before you decide

A few practical questions.

How should I prepare for a treatment?

Bring your questions and details of your health, medicines, allergies and previous treatment. Sian explains the approach, possible benefits, limitations, risks, alternatives and full cost before you decide.

What should I ask about recovery and follow-up?

Avoid shaving the treated area for 24 hours and strenuous exercise or the gym for 24–48 hours, or follow the personal advice given at your appointment.

Is numbing cream available and included?

A topical numbing cream is used where appropriate to increase comfort. It is included in the treatment. Arrive a little early if you would like the cream applied before your appointment — Sian will confirm timing when you book.

Do I have to decide at the consultation?

There is no pressure to have treatment on the same day as your consultation. Many clients prefer to take time to decide after discussing suitability, risks and costs.

The £10 aesthetics consultation is deducted from treatment if you proceed. Any required prescriber assessment takes place before treatment.
